Vijayawada under shadow of Maoists?
VIJAYAWADA: The Maoists may cast a shadow over the capital in Amaravati region in the near future if the bloody history scripted by ultras in their previous form of People’s War Group (PWG) in the Palnadu region and their perceived attempts to make their presence felt in the capital region are any signs. The extremists are said to be keen to regain their last ground in the Palnadu region contiguous to the capital region by taking utter backwardness, caste conflicts, poor irrigation facility and the loss of employment by agricultural labour induced by farm mechanisation to their advantage. A couple of armed squads from the Maoist party active in the Nallamala forest range are said to have sent their emissaries to their old bases for a `feasibility’ study in the Palnadu region. Appearance of posters of the Maoists with a warning to punish call money traders in the Palnadu villages recently gives strength to the reports indicating their keenness to rebuild their old bases.
