KHAMMAM: Continuing their attacks on security forces, Maoists triggered a landmine blast killing a CRPF head constable and leaving 11 personnel injured in Morli forest area near Kunta town of naxal-infested Sukma district in Chhattisgarh on Friday.
The incident took place as CRPF personnel, deputed to ensure security to road works from Kunta to Gollapalli, were patrolling the area. The Maoists triggered a landmine targeting the patrol party, at 9:30 am on Friday.
ccording to sources, 12 Jawans sustained injuries, and of them, who sustained grievous injuries were shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment. However, head constable Rangarajan Raghavan succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad.
Talking about the incident, Dantewada IG Kalluri Sivarama Krishna said though they were taking all precautions, Maoists were able to strike back. He said combing operations were launched to nab the Maoists who are responsible for Friday’s incident.
Situation along the state border between Telangana and Chhattisgarh states has grown tense following the recent encounter between security forces and Naxals in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh state.
The exchange of fire between Maoists and security forces has been going on for the last few days causing concern among the innocent tribals living in the border villages. Fear has gripped the tribal colonies and people are reluctant to step out of their houses fearing attacks. Many families are starving as they stopped venturing out to collect essentials due to fear of police and Maoists.
Recalling their ordeal, a tribal community member said they are spending sleepless nights due to the continuing conflict between police and Maoists.
The Maoist group, that lost cadre and ground in recent exchange of fire is trying to revive their activities, while the security forces are trying to foil their attempts. The recent encounter is a major setback to the Maoist party as eight Maoists, including five women, were gunned down by the Telangana Greyhounds in Sukma forest area.
In a revenge attack, the Maoists killed three COBRA personnel including one SI in Kistaram police station limits.
