Security has been beefed up in all the sensitive places across Chhattisgarh, particularly the Maoist-infested regions in the state, for the Independence Day celebrations tomorrow, police said. “Tight security has been put in place in the state, especially in the insurgency-hit Bastar region, to avoid any disturbances by the rebels during the I-day celebrations,” Additional Director General of Police (anti-naxal operations) R K Vij told PTI. Security forces have been asked to stay extra alert keeping in view the Maoists’ opposition to the Independence Day celebrations, Vij said.
Armed guards have been deployed at all the important government establishments. Additional security arrangements have been made at the headquarters of each of the districts under Bastar division, comprising Sukma, Dantewada, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker and Bastar districts, he added. “Patrolling has also been intensified in the interior forest pockets and inter-state borders to check suspicious movements,” he said. The state government has accomplished all the preparations in all the 27 districts, including the capital Raipur.

Maoist posters surface in Mamata’s Kolkata on Independence Day eve
On Friday, a day before Independence Day, as many as 8-10 posters with Maoists links were found near the Manicktala Main Road which falls under Narkeldanga Police Station’s jurisdiction. Police officials of Narkeldanga rushed to the spot and pulled down those posters immediately. Meanwhile the Special Branch of the Kolkata police have swung into action, just a day before Independence Day.
When dna contacted Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Intelligence), Dilip Bandyapadhyay to know the contents of the posters, he refused to divulge anything related to the matter. Earlier last month, as many as fifty Maoist posters had surfaced in Purulia district of the state. The posters were put up, seeking people’s support for the Martyrs’ week. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the city and other parts of the state.

Maoist Shadow on I-Day, Security Tightened in Malkangiri
MALKANGIRI: Even as the Maoists have given a call to observe the Independence Day as black day, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sudam Marandi will unfurl the Tricolour at Malkangiri on Saturday. The Maoists have given a bandh call on Saturday demanding stopping of the combing operation in the district. In wake of Maoists’ bandh call, security has been scaled up. BSF jawans have been pressed into service to keep vigil at the DNK Ground here and surrounding areas where the Minister will hoist the Tricolour.
Area domination operation has been intensified by BSF, District Voluntary Forces and Special Operation Group jawans in Kalimela, MV-79, Motu, Podia, Chitrakonda, Khairput, Mathili and Govindpali. Alert has been sounded in the area, people are being frisked at entry and exit points of the district and patrolling intensified. Additional forces have been deployed in other sensitive areas. Last year too, in posters and banners put up at several places in Kalimela, Motu, MV-79, Podia, Chitrakonda, Khairput, Govindpalli in Malkangiri district and Machhkund, Ankadeli, Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon in Koraput district, the rebels had urged people to observe the I-Day as a black day by stating that real freedom still eludes people.
