BANDH EVOKES MIXED RESPONSE IN JHARKHAND
Although it remained ineffective in the urban areas, normal life in some of the Naxal-affected areas of the State remained completely paralysed throughout the day during the bandh called by CPI (Maoists) on Tuesday. According to a Press release issued by the CPI (Maoists), the bandh was called against the police encounter, which took place at Bakoria village of Palamu on June 9 leaving 12 rebels dead on the spot. The Maoists had also put up posters in Lohardaga and East Singhbhum districts declaring a day long bandh in Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, effect of bandh was seen in the Naxal infested areas like Gumla, Latehar and Palamu since morning where the long distance buses kept off the roads and market remained closed throughout the day. In Giridih, it evoked partial response with the plying of only small vehicles on the roads. While the Devri area of Giridih remained complete bandh where even banks as schools remained bandh throughout the day. Impact of bandh was also seen in Latehar where most of the block offices remained deserted throughout the day due to cancellation of public transport system in those areas. Following a call of bandh, police headquarters had alerted all the districts directing them to be more vigilant on the national and state highways where the vehicles are generally targeted by the Maoists.
